Ring, Ring, Ring!

Yesterday we saw Courtney, officially, turn in the direction of sound! Little Miss Sassy Pants turned to the sound of two different types of bells and one set of small symbols while we were playing a listening game at Sunshine Cottage. I was so focused on what my part of the game was - to point to my ear and say, "Mommy hears a bell. Ring, ring, ring," that I almost missed the moment! I never seem to be one that gets emotional in the moment, but when I reflect back I realize that that was the first time we have ever seen her respond (turn her head) to any type of sound. Hope!

We need that hope because we have made the decision to do simultaneous bilateral cochlear implants pending the CT scan results next week. We will keep you posted!

Yeah Courtney!!! I know exactly what you mean about trying to play the part of new found job as an AVT parent! It can be quite overwhelming. But how great does it feel to see reactions?! Isn't it amazing! We're going to try simultaneous bilaterals too ... I'm making that phone call this week to let our ENT know. Best of luck with the CT scan!

That is so exciting! Congratulations on making a very important CI decision. I cannot wait to follow Courtney's progress with her new ears!

That sound awareness is so wonderful! She's already making a connection with sound, and I can't wait to see how the world of sound opens up to her when she gets her CI(s)!

We just found out in May that my 7 month old niece has profound hearing loss in both ears. She is now being "worked up" for her bilateral CI's. Chloe pretty much has the same story as Courtney, repeated ear infections, fluid behind ear drums, led to diagnosis of hearing loss. To look at her, one would never know she is hearing impaired, she "acts" like every other baby.

Praying for Courtney during this process. God will provide the answers you need.

Karen, that's fabulous!! We're continuing to pray for Courtney and have also asked our church for prayers for all of you.
